MagIC is proud to present the G-Lab, our novel joint research facility established in 2023.

Created through our partnership with G-NiiB GenieBiome, the G-Lab acts as a crucial bridge linking our scientific explorations with real-world application prospects. Housed within the G-Lab, MagIC researchers collaborate closely with experts from G-NiiB GenieBiome. Their combined efforts work to streamline the development of microbiome diagnostics and treatments.

Our upstream discoveries at MagIC set the groundwork. Meanwhile, G-NiiB GenieBiome's downstream steerage helps shepherd innovations from the laboratory through commercialization processes and out to patients.

The G-Lab brings together the complementary strengths of both organizations, advancing microbiome progress through their integrated and synergistic involvement at all stages - from basic research to final implementation.

Collaboration-framework
G-Lab Collaboration

At G-Lab, MagIC focuses on upstream and midstream innovative research, including:

  • Identifying novel microbiome biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

  • Filing patents and pursuing commercialization through licensing.

In contrast, GenieBiome enhances downstream development by:

  • Optimizing technology.

  • Sourcing manufacturers.

  • Conducting clinical trials and obtaining regulatory approvals.

The first joint proposal from G-Lab targets early microbiome diagnostic markers for detecting Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), which is currently undergoing FDA breakthrough device application.

Facilitating Regulatory Approval

Developing products for regulatory approval involves extensive market research, policy review, and complex application procedures. The expertise from G-NiiB GenieBiome will provide essential knowledge and networks that MagIC's research talents currently lack, streamlining the process of developing diagnostic kits for early-stage regulatory approval.

Overcoming Research Hurdles

The establishment of G-Lab addresses two major hurdles in transforming academic research into commercially viable products:

  • Real-World Applicability: Scientific data generated in controlled environments may not always translate to real-world applications. G-Lab provides a platform for researchers to validate their findings in practical settings.

  • Business Perspective: Many scientists lack the business acumen needed to commercialize their innovations. The collaboration with GenieBiome allows MagIC scientists to gain entrepreneurial experience and insights into industry needs.

Synergistic Collaboration

The joint efforts between MagIC and G-NiiB GenieBiome will create significant synergy, leading to substantial benefits:

  1. Biosample Collection: MagIC will have access to large quantities of biosamples related to childhood disorders from various sources. This systematic collection is crucial for advancing research but requires networks that MagIC does not currently possess.

  2. Regional Leadership: By accumulating extensive data and biosamples, MagIC aims to become a regional leader in microbiome research, facilitating further R&D development over the next five years.

  3. Acquisition of Laboratory Skills: MagIC will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to operate a service laboratory, which requires specialized personnel with Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) qualifications.
