Exploring Microbiome Summit 2025

The Microbiome Summit 2025, with the theme "Microbes Spark Discovery", is a collaborative effort between the Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, and the Microbiota I-Center (MagIC), set to be an enlightening convergence of minds in the realm of microbiome research and application. This summit will feature a diverse array of lectures and symposiums delving into pivotal themes such as the future of Microbiome Medicine, Early Life’s Microbiome, Microbiome, Nutrition, and Diet, Microbiome and AI, as well as innovative discussions on microbiome-based approaches in addressing conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Non-communicable Diseases, and the intricate interplay with Gut Microbiome.

 

Understanding the microbiome is crucial for human health as it plays a vital role in various physiological functions, such as digestion, immune system regulation, and even mental health. Research in this field offers insights into how these microorganisms impact our well-being and opens doors to personalized healthcare approaches tailored to individual microbiome compositions. The study of the human microbiome is a growing trend worldwide, with increasing recognition of its profound impact on health and disease.

 

As awareness of the microbiome's significance spreads, the microbiome innovation market is expanding rapidly, offering immense opportunities for advancements in healthcare, personalized medicine, and biotechnology. Director - Microbiota I-Center (MagIC)

Professor Siew Ng is a Croucher Professor in Medical Sciences.  She is the Director of the Microbiota I-Center (MagIC), Assistant Dean (Development), and Professor at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.  She is the scientific co-founder of GenieBiome Limited.   

 

She is at the forefront of epidemiology, genetics, pathogenesis, and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease in Asia-Pacific and globally.  She pioneered the research on the role of gut microbiota in health and disease; fecal microbiota transplantation and microbial therapeutics as well as COVID-19.

   

She has published over 300 papers in international journals and filed over 50 patents across the nation, US, and Europe.

Professor Francis Ka Leung CHAN, SBS, JP, is Choh-Ming Li Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics, Director of the Centre for Gut Microbiota Research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Co-director of the Microbiota I-Center (MagIC) Limited established under the Innovation and Technology Commission, HKSAR Government. He is also the former Dean of Medicine at CUHK from 2013 to 2024. 

Professor Chan co-founded a microbiota start-up company, GenieBiome Limited, to bring the application of gut microbiome as a new biotechnology industry into Hong Kong and Asia. As an inventor, he has filed over 125 patents across the nation, the U.S., and Europe.

Being a world-renowned clinician-scientist in gastrointestinal diseases, he has published over 860 full scientific articles in high-impact international journals with an h-index of 130.

The Microbiome Summit 2025 will be held at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) on January 11, 2025. The summit aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas between world-class expertise and the dissemination of cutting-edge research on gut microbiomes in human health and diseases. 

Therefore, the Scientific Committee of the Microbiome Summit 2025 encourages you to submit an abstract for an e-poster or physical poster presentation.
